Double Bass Handel G minor Sonata (Fred Zimmerman ed.)

I picked this out of a bin at a sheet music store years ago and only recently started to play it. I assume it's a transcription of something originally written for another instrument.

Has anyone played it before? Do you know what it was originally written for, and whether there are any recordings (on bass or otherwise)?

I'm not sure what it was written for originally, but Jacqueline Du Pre recorded it. It's a nice little piece, pretty difficult. Good Luck

This piece was originally an oboe concerto. Elaine Douvas recorded it with the New York Symphonic Ensemble and Mamoru Takahara if you can track it down.

I'm working on that piece right now. I am using an edition by Lucas Drew (who--correctly--calls it a concerto rather than sonata). There is also supposedly an edition by Simandl, but I have never seen it. Both the Drew and the Zimmerman editions have a fair number of changes from the original oboe version, so I have been looking at the original oboe music to decide which changes I like and which I don't.

There should be a good number of recordings of the piece on oboe and I know Klaus Stoll recorded it on bass.
