Thread Drift: I still get a kick out of the fact that the actor who portrayed John Deacon in the Bohemian Rhapsody movie was the same actor who played John Hammond's grandson in the original Jurassic Park movie!

I saw Queen in '81, I believe. Could've been 1980.

You'd hardly notice that Deacon was there physically, but everything would've fallen apart at the seams without him, no questions asked. That's a top-tier player and then some.

I saw the same tour. In my case, it was Jan 1978. Wasn't my first concert, but after a life time of live shows, still remains hands down the best. Queen at their peak (the "Day at the Races" tour) was truly unreal, and Thin Lizzy wasn't exactly shabby either.

It usually seems surprising when a star/celebrity abandons the limelight after fame at that level. But in his case it was less so. He was always the quintessential "bass player in the back" regarding the hype of being a rock star. You saw him on stage and hardly ever heard any more about him.

A truly great player though.
