Hard case for Mustang bass options

Looking to buy a hard case to fit a mustang bass. Fender sells one new for $209.00.

Anybody know of other brands offering a hard case to fit the Mustang?

I searched but did not see anything..

Last time I checked Rondomusic, you should find a short scale bass case, for maybe $59 or so. Smells like a chemical plant with volatile organics. It gets pretty neutral after airing out for a few days. I do like the case.

Gator universal HSCs are nice, and have a support for the entire length of the neck.

I picked up an ESP one used that fits perfectly. Unfortunately, it has no other designation on it other than the ESP logo, so I have no idea what model # it might be.

NOTE: 4th PIC was attempt to show that molded padding inside case is virtually form-fit for Mustang Bass body. Because case interior is black, it's hard to photograph that well.

I checked on the ESP site and was unable to find this case, so I assume it is no longer being made. Because I bought it empty and used (though in virtually new condition) I have no way of knowing what instrument it was originally intended for. Maybe somebody at ESP would know. Try e-mailing them the URL of this thread and maybe after looking at these PICs, they'll be able to ID it for you.

As I said before, there are no identifiers on it other than the ESP logo.

Yes, the molded padding actually does a better job of immobilizing the bass than Fender's own case (which, IMHO, is grossly over-priced).

This ESP case was made in Canada, though (again) I have no idea when.

If it was made in Canada it may well be a TKL case. Looks a lot like a TKL to me and not a foregone conclusion, but if it is then it will likely cost more (new) than the Fender case.

If I had the sense that people liked the current Fender case, I'd probably just get the best price I could on it and buy one. But in many of the customer reviews I've read on various retail sites, people seem very unhappy with the Fender case quality.

My current guess is that Mustang Surly's ESP case was made to fit one of their 27" baritone guitar models, maybe like [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. But I'm still trying to figure it out for sure.

My old Musicmaster is in the Rondo case. It’s a good fit and does its job well. Price is great.

They aren't terrible cases, IMO. Just over-priced for what they are.

I just bought a Gator case for my Mustang. I had to move the padded neck rest cross slightly forward (toward the headstock) but I didn’t have to drill any new holes, just remove the screws and move the foam block forward and replace the screws. It just needed a bit more room because I have a strap lock on the upper horn. I haven’t moved the little cubby hole hinged top thing yet, but I can if I want to later. I really don’t use those things anyway.

The only marking or item # is GWE-ELEC. The case is 42.5” inside length, Black Tolex covered fiberboard. I could not find this case listed on the Gator website. I took my mustang to the shop and test fitted so I was 99% sure it would fit. I did the mod at home. The retail price was $79.99.

Another shop in town offered to order a G&G case with the Fender name plate. List price is $299.00, so even with a discount offered, its ridiculously over priced IMHO. I don’t want to advertise for Fender, I just want to keep my bass in a HS case.....

We've tried a few different Mustang cases & bags at this point. My unvarnished reactions to them:

The Fender case definitely feels cheaper than it should given what they charge for it. I keep thinking one of the latches is going to come off in my hand someday.

The Rondo case feels slightly cheaper still, but the price is much more in line with the product -- it cost less than half what the Fender regularly sells for.

The thing I've liked best so far isn't a hard case -- it's a beefy gig bag: the Gator Pro-Go Ultimate Electric Guitar Gig Bag. This is not the bass version of the case -- it's the regular guitar version. But it has a supplemental pad at the bottom that can be removed easily, and once you pull that out, a Mustang/Musicmaster bass fits in it nicely. It seems to be protective and well made, but we haven't tested it too heavily yet.

But...I still wish somebody made a really nice hard case!

I just bought the same case: Gator GWE-ELEC. Fits my Mustang PJ perfectly without any mods. I'll have to double-check, but I think I have straplocks on that bass.

It was a very small amount that I had to move it. Not even 1/2 in.

Just thought I'd let you folks know of a case that works great with my Mustang Bass.

It's the Gator Cases Deluxe ABS GC-ELEC-XL for Extra Long. It measures right at 42" in the interior, which fits both my Mustang Bass and Mustang Electric Guitar.
