Hard chopping tremolo

I use an old Voodoo Lab Tremolo sometimes when recording, it gets a pretty good chop, but there are better options with tap tempo and stuff now that I would probably check out.Invalid Link Removed

I recently compared specifically the Voodoo Lab Tremolo with the Semaphore; The Voodoo did not fully chop to zero-signal whereas the Semaphore did (The Fairfield Circuitry Randy's Revenge did as well, I might as well mention). I think the optical designs as nice as they otherwise are, are limited in the ability to fully chop due to limited speed.

Thanks guys...Looks like there are lots of trems for me to check out ...All the responses I've gotten here are awesome. And it shows my lack of knowledge in the trem department. Currently leaning towards the Moog mf102, and if anyone has one for sale hit me up,. But it does look like I'll be checking out a lot of pedals in the near future

@Brio .. @winterburn69 the malekko sneak attack is a killer pedal! Thanks for the heads up....The fact that you need the "lil buddy" to really use it to its full potential is a small deterrent, even though most really cool pedals, with multiple functions need some sort of accessory pedal to open it up.ie: expression pedal..Tap tempo... I've pretty much narrowed it down to a few I'm going to demo

The Moog mf102 is on top so far

The boss sl-20 slicer is also high on the list because of all the crazy stuff you can do

The Cusack tap a whirl seems like a cool pedal at a decent price

And the eqd hummingbird. Mostly because of the killer demo Juan @pedals and effects did. He actually uses his (in the demo) with synth/fuzz. So it helped a lot

I owned the empress and I was underwhelmed.

I was very surprised at how good the trems on the line 6 m5 are, and you also get a butt load of other sounds additionally, about half of which are pretty usable.

I've tried the diamond trem in a shop and it blew me away, that's one I lust after.

That being said I think the old style Seymour Duncan shapeshifter is prolly going to replace my m5 (for trem sounds at least). It's amazing how cheap the older versions are now, and seeing @gregmon79 give his recommendation to it helps seal the deal for me.

Word to the wise though, the older version has a design flaw where the pedal must be engaged to have the tempo tapped in. I'm planning on putting it in a true bypass loop anyways, so it doesn't matter to me. There was someone calling themselves roan tone that was doing a mod to fix this, not sure if they're still active.

All that being said the zvex sonar looks amazing and deserves mention as well, and as always, Zach's videos are entrancing:

If money were no object it would be a tough call between the diamond and the zvex for me.

I was lucky enough to get one used through @smeet for a great price. He had it modded, the tap tempo has a soft touch relay. I can't remember though if I can tap it when it's not engaged and have it read it.....I think it can....smeet??

Yeah, that was one of the coolest parts of the mod, being able to tap in the tempo even when it's bypassed. Such a great tremolo.

This is the correct answer. Once you try a Spaceman Voyager, there will be no need for any other tremolos. The thing is bloody amazing, both in how it sounds and in the things it can do.

I really want a Voyager, but they're damn hard to come by and $$$$$$$. The Sneak Attack is a different sort of beast, though.

Trust me when I tell you that if tremolo is really important to you, it is completely worth taking the time and spending the money to find a Voyager. Seriously. It will be the last tremolo you ever need. I kick myself daily for selling mine, but my only solace is that it isn't critical to my sound or my current project...it was more of a luxury for me than anything else.

The Sneak Attack is plenty open without using the Lil Buddy, I haven't used my Lil Buddy in 3 or so months, and the Sneak Attack is extremely usable and insanely versitile as it is.
