Hard Classical Pieces

Funny you should post this. Last week I was on a very long "hold" call while a health insurance rep was working on finding several specialists for my wife to see. (I gladly stayed on hold while she did the groundwork for us.)

The hold music was various classical pieces. To keep myself busy, I grabbed a nearby bass and tried to play along to a few. I'm sure I cycled through the whole playlist 4 times or more. I was starting to get a few. Fur Elise was fairly easy, but I think one was Chopin that I never really got into the groove on.

It was a fun exercise for this mediocre bassist.

As I recall you're supposed to play them in all keys and they progress rapidly in difficulty.

I'm looking for a challenge, does anyone have any ridiculously hard Classical Pieces on bass.

Play all 6 Cello suites...properly.

Difficult is subjective in classical music. Well, all music. But sometimes slow and emotional pieces can be difficult to play convincingly and with proper phrasing. I saw someone on reddit post a Chopin waltz adapted to electric guitar and it had a lot of notes and technical difficulty, but it didn't sound anything like a waltz or like how this specific Chopin waltz should sound.

I would love to see a good interpretation of this Schubert sonata on bass guitar:

Great performance but I hate it when they skip the repeat in a sonata form movement. Ruins the balance.

If you have the ability to transpose to bass clef, the world of Oboe music has some wonderful pieces and the range is nicely in keeping with bass, especially EB.
