hard decison

hey guys.
ive been playing a cheap, ripped off version of a fender p for the last year (i play a Vintage V4 Reissue). the bass isn't bad. but i want a bass with
1.more pickups so that i cant experiment with tone and sounds more.
2.a active pre amp. a active pick up is less important to me. bu i want the versatility of being able to change the sound while performing and not having to go to my amp for that.
3. more frets. the songs that i cover are often asking me to slide down to fret 21 or 22 or 24. my bass has 20. it gets annoying sometimes.

i play mostly rock/metal music in my own time (Primus, Tool, A7X, RHCP, etc) and my teacher often teaches me Funk/Jazz (Stevie Wonder, Sublime, etc) so i need a bass that is versatile.

im looking at either a Warwick Pro seires Corvette bubinga 4 string, or a Sterling by Musicman Ray35 or a MTD Kingston Heir 5 string.
i love all three of these bass equally and they all fit my decripion. can you guys please help me decide and/or if you guys have any other sergeustions (excuse the spelling please).

If you have a grand to spend then I would look at used basses. Where are you located (roughly)? For that much dough, you should be able to come up with a REALLY nice versatile bass. You can even find USA made Rays or Sterlings (possibly with a neck pickup) for that much of you are willing to hunt a while. I'm not knocking any of those basses you mentioned. But you can get more for your money if you go used.

i live in new Zealand
i am considering used basses. my only issue is if they are legit. ive seen some cases where someone says they're product is good only to sell a horrible product. but i havent lost faith in used basses yet. thank you.

If you're playing that high, you may want to look into a 5 string strung EADGB.

5 string + humbuckers + 24 frets will do ya. Warwick or Spector. I'd go with a Warwick Corvette 5 $$ or a Spector NS-5H2 if I were in your shoes.
