No. I gave up the "punk rocker" title ten years ago. My musical tastes lean more towards indie rock and post-punk. And I don't have a holier-than-thou attitude. I've just listened to the stuff long enough to know who's for real and who's faking it. I don't keep up with the "punk" scene as much as I used to, but i still have friends who do. When you're young, bands like Rancid can help you to get into a new scene, and that's cool. They are highly respected by young kids just getting into the scene, and by "mall punks" everywhere. But realize that there are thousands of bands out there that you will never hear about on MTV, Spin magazine, or on your radio that are probably better.

All I can say is for you kids out there to get involved in your local scenes. If you don't have one, start one. Go to all of the shows you can, even those you never heard of. Buy their records. Invest in a good turntable. Most of the good stuff never makes it to CD.

I was lucky enough to grow up in a city with a rich punk/indie scene, and to have friends several years older than me. I started going to shows at the age of twelve, and when I was fifteen and sixteen, I averaged about three shows a week. So i was exposed to a lot of stuff.

For those of you not so lucky, you should actively seek out new music. Seriously, read MRR and punk planet. Buy stuff from bands you've never heard of. Be adventurous. But above all, have fun.

If you want music about getting drunk and doing stupid stuff, some old Gang Green might be right up your alley. GBH is good for what you want too. Those guys pretty much epitomize (yeah, believe it or not, they're still around) the gutter punk sound.

You might want to run a search on the internet for "gutter punk" and "crust punk".

I had no idea aus rotten made it all the way to maryland, i just thought they were a pittsburgh secret. Punk rock isn't really my cup of tea, but have you guys heard of Anti-Flag???
