Harmony Central Reviews

What happened to the Harmony Central user reviews? It used to be such a great go-to place for real information on instruments, amps and accessories. They changed the site several years ago, and since then it seems as if they dumped a lot of the old reviews and started over. The old site was clunky, but it ran fast and was easy to find information. When they came up with the new site, I thought that maybe they were having some difficulties that they would clear up and all would be fine.

But that never happened. Anyone know what happened?

Great threat topic. I loved those reviews! They really helped me quite a bit. Especially in my dark ages before i knew of TB!! lol. I wish I had an answer, but I'm in the dark too, but I am curious to find out what happened, too.

When researching specs of gear I do simple Google searches and depending on what I am searching every once in a while a Harmony Central review will be one of the top five hits. They are pretty helpful in learning about gear and how good the gear is.

I judged the reviews there as I do here.
With a very small grain of salt.

Most reviews are done by amateurs and done during the "Honeymoon" period.
I do not think any review done before spending at least a month with the bass is useless. I have seen reviews done here 15 min after they got the bass!

After someone spends a lot of money and gets a brand new shiny bass they always love it. Give it a month or two and their view change. I know it has for me on many basses.

Ed Friedland gives good reviews along with a few others I trust.

I agree. I feel like see a lot of entry-level gear getting reviewed and much less info in the way of formal reviews for higher end equipment.

Didn't mean for this to become a discussion of reviews in general - everyone knows that many reviews are written 1) by amateurs or 2) the same day the instrument was recieved. I've even seen reviews on dealer's sites where people add reviews without owning the instrument.

What was great about HC reviews was the sheer volume - there were a large number of reviews and you could pick out the ones written by people who knew what they were talking about. The site went by the wayside several years ago; a major overhaul screwed it up and it never got back to what it was previously. I thought that maybe someone here would have some insight into what happened at HC.
