Harsh Overdrive

to be totally honest, Behringer do a sansamp rip off called the BDI21, probably wouldnt use the DI out tho (apparently a bit flimsy) however, many people seem to feel that tonally, it sounds quite similar to the Sansamp Bassdriver DI, very close, in fact. i've never used it, but like most behringer products, they're pretty cheap both financially and construction-wise, but if u like it, then u can see how long it holds out and if you decide u need one in ur life, get the real sansamp.

in fact i might get one (the behringer) so i can switch between the old tone i used on my BDDI and the current tone im favouring on my VTbass.

A lot of people do bash Behringer, but the BDI21 is supposed to be one of their best pedals - there was a thread comparing the sound to the real Sansamp and it fooled most people. Seeing as your'e not entirely sure what sound you're after and are on a budget, I agree with DosiYanarchy - pick up one of these for cheap (check out ebay and the Talkbass classifieds), if you decide to sell it on you won't really lose any money.
