Hartke 115xl and a Kappa

Hey all,

I'm trying to find a replacement speaker for my Hartke 115xl. We play stoner and might have a couple of gigs next year. My current speaker can't handle much I've been looking at Eminence Kappa A and a 3015. Would the cab be able to handle that kind of power and would the 115 be loud enough for gigging? Would the cab need modding? I'm playing with a Bass Terror 500.

I'm still quite new to these big rigs, so all advice and speaker suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks for the replies guys. How can I make sure that the 15a or 3015 is a good fit for the cab? The cab's dimensions are Height:24" (609.6 mm) Width: 24" (609.6 mm) Depth: 15" (381 mm).

And hey Chuck - I just read a while back from another thread that you had a Hartke TP115 and you got a new driver for it. Did you go with the 3015 or another driver? TP and XL have quite similar dimensions so I'd be very interested in your experience.

I've also heard that some 115 cabs can't handle a lot power when you use them as a stand alone. How is this appear? Rattling? Would it better to get to Hartke 115 cabs with the 15a:s or 3015:s?

That project is on the back burner until the summer- so no results yet.

I'm guessing that the 3015 would work well for you but better wait and see what the folks who are able to model this stuff have to say.

Well, crap... I'm going to hold on to the Hartke cab as a backup at least. I've been also thinking about getting a Peavey 410TX. Is there any change of using them both together if I get a Hartke driver? Right now the cab is loaded with a retro Celestion with very low wattage. I've also read about how 410 and 115 are not a match made in heaven, but right now all I need is more speaker area since this is my first rig.

No point in that that pairing either.

I've wondered about this too. I have tried a Kappa 15c (4 ohm) in my 115XL and it worked OK but it didn't have the upper midrange bite of the original aluminum 15 so I put it back in. As far as power capacity of the aluminum driver, I push mine with a 350 Watt head and it hasn't complained yet. I doubt any 15 will be appreciably louder than your aluminum driver unless it is ready to blow. I would find a used 115XL which are about the same price as a new driver and go with it. 2 115XL's stacked are a force to be reckoned with.
