Hartke 410/115 advice please!

Hi,

I would like to know what is the optimal way of connecting the Hartke LH1000 head to one Hydrive 410 and a 115 cab to get the most out of this rig. Not sure whether it should be bridge, parallel, speakon, 1/4", outputs A or B. Thank you!

PS: I searched the threads but didn't find anything very specific to this exactly.

That's a tough one, as that is such a poor match of cabinets. You'll be limited by what the 15 can handle. I'd sell the 15 and get another 410.

But either way, Speakon is the way to go. Avoid 1/4" if at all possible. Bridge mode should be fine if both of your cabinets are 8 ohm.

If you look for (real) Headroom of the power amp stage you probably get best results with the full power 1000 Watt.
If some overload/compression of the power amp is your prefered sound goal then you want power the stack with only one channel of the power amp 500 Watt just to be save

edit, btw, Headroom in real practice means the amount of power of the amp never used.

The tube preamp provides the possibility to adjust the bass guitar signal to a smooth tube like compressed sound. So even with only 500 watt you'll get plenty of "juice" with 410+115 and powering the stack with 500 watt. I'm pretty sure the power amp will amplify with Headroom even on a loud stage in this case.

Use it as intended. Run each side to it's respective enclosure. Adjust to taste with the balance knob. Keep in mind the 4 X 10 will walk the dog on the 1 X 15. Not the best pairing but it looks cool as all git-out.

I would stack the 15 on the top so you can better hear any cries of pain from it. As has been mentioned the 4x10 + 1x15 really is a mediocre pairing at best. Take a look at the power handling of the two cabinets and you will no doubt see that the 4x10 will take much more power than the 15.

I too feel that parallel mono is the best connection scheme, it’s what I do.

IMHO SpeakOns are the only way to go. Better in every way than the 1/4” Phone plug.

I think the LH1000 manual has the answer to your exact situation...this was copied directly:
BALANCE control knob (LH1000 only) – This control knob adjusts the level difference between the Channel
1 and Channel 2 amplifiers. If you are using two different cabinets (for example a 115 and 410), you may want
to drive one a little harder than the other to balance your sound. In the center (12:00 o’clock) position, both
amplifier channels are at equal power. The BALANCE control has no effect when the LH1000 is running in bridge
mode.
