Not sure where you got the knobs at noon thing...Ken, it's interesting that your impression of the LH500 set flat (I assume you mean EQ knobs at 12 o'clock) yields a mid forward tone. According to Hartke, exactly the opposite is true. Knobs at 12 o'clock is designed to be a preset mid scooped tone. Hmmm....flat seems to be bass and treble turned down almost all the way, and the mids up a bit.
Remember the bass and treble controls are mostly boost. Midrange is mostly cut. QUOTE]
According to the LH500 manual the entire tone stack is "boost only". However, all knobs centered at "5" is designed to yield a scooped EQ. Therefore, the mid would have to be boosted in relation to the bass and treble in order to result in a truly flat EQ setting. In essence I suppose this results in a control that is "mostly cut" as you say.

I must know what that little fuzzy lookin' square pad next to the power switch is? am I goofy?![]()
For the most part, I find 3 - 10 - 1 to be optimal for most of my situations. And funny enough, if I start boosting the treble a bit, it seems like I get a boost in the mids as well. This is also possibly the result of "tequila ear".![]()

Hey Gang, The LH-500 and LH-1000's classic "tone stack" EQ's flat setting is bass 3, mids 10, treble 0. You can read more about the EQ at www.hartke.com
The manual does say that, but that's not what Larry says:
He also told me that in person when I first tried the amp out at his 48th St Bass Lounge.
All passive Fender style tone stacks work this way. The EQ on my BK Butler Blue Tube is exactly the same way as is the Alembic tube preamp.

Glad I read this. Just tried on my lh1000 what Larry says to be flat. What a great sound. I was trying to get flat and wasn't far off, it just seems weird to me to turn the knobs that far to get flat
It's funny I never use mine flat. I usually have everything at about 1:00, or with the bass and treble at about 11:00.
But I have not found a bad sound out of that amp. I've been using it with a Mesa/Eden 4X10, but I also have a Hartke XL 4X10. I'm switching over to that on this weekend's gig.![]()
