Has EBMM changed their pickups?

Hey everyone,

So I've been playing a new EBMM Stingray 4 since September. While this bass plays as great as my last Stingray (an 06) it just doesn't seem to have the same oomph. Has EBMM changed their pickup design in the last few years? This EBMM sounds more polite and articulate than I remember them being.

Was your 06 Stingray a 5 string by chance? It would have had ceramic pickups. The 5 string changed to alnico in 2008. The 4 strings were always alnico.

I liked the louder more aggressive 06 bass.

No they were both 4 strings.

I don't think I've read anything that indicates EBMM has changed the Stingray 4 pickup in quite some time. The last change to that pickup (I think) was going to rounded polepieces at some point, maybe in the early 2000's. They also changed the pickup cover, but I don't think that would affect the sound.

Some basses just sound different, even the same make/model. Are all other things the same? Body wood and fretboard wood is the same?

So I found out what the problem was. I had a fellow bassist, and Stingray Afficionado, come by and he asked to play my SR4. The bass output of the preamp is basically nonexistent. Time to contact EBMM.

Are they active pickups? If so, have you changed the battery?

check wires coming off the battery....I had one that came disconnected...its a quick fix..
