Well tb has not changed much about what I feel. Im a very decided person. I just do this to stick my opinion out like an ******* and try to help those beginning bassists get their thing going. It is always hard to start an instrument and the bass being something that is widely underapreciated it takes a little extra encouragement. For example I know personally around 30 decent guitar players and two decent bass players. See.
It taught me that an internet forum can polite. Talkbass is the most docile forum I've ever been to. The annual flaming and trolling here equals a couple of posts in the other forums I frequent. There are times where I can't come here because it's too nice. I need my dose of carnage and mayhem.
This is a very cool thread. I would have to say the one thing TB has changed my mind about is my belief that it wasn't ok to not have a regular gig. It hurts to go from 90mph to 30mph, but TB showed me just how many regular, non-rockstar type folks there are out there pluckin' away. The last few years have been a huge change for me musically, with the birth of my daughter and a real job coming into play. Talkbass has actually helped me cope with the loss of a steady gig schedule by sharing with others who know the feeling. For that, I say thank you TalkBass.(and curse you for all the G.A.S.!)
You want carnage and mayhem? Go to a Transformers forum and mention how nasty whatever is being the most praised at the time is.....make sure you have your firesuit on, you will need it...the Transformer fandom has run of the mill flame wars that will cross several boards at once and can put a Star Trek fan war to shame sometimes. ... its VISCOUS in that fandom. The quiet here really gets to me too sometimes cause I am used to same carnage and mayhem myself...but thats what makes it so nice too...a break from the storm. LOL
Had I become a member of TB 6 mths prior, I would have never purchased my 2007 Carvin LB75AP Anniversary. TB was a major influence in my purchase of the '08' MIA Fender Jazz V I now own. I went on testimonies and experiences with the '08' and made my decision from them.

TB has been a great source of knowledge and infornmation for me, however, I'm at the point where I really know what I like (Fender Vs, for instance) and people downgrading them tends to go in one ear and come out of the other for me.
I still think that info on setups and new artists, TB is wonderful. I just take gear talk with a grain of salt.

TB hasn't changed my mind, it's been an incredible source of information (and of course, GAS 
). I played bass in the '80s, primarily in my little local band scene, and only walked into the local music store when I needed new strings. I had barely played since then when I joined TB, so I had never heard of most of the basses and amps that are available these days, never mind their designs and options. But while TB has probably stoked my gearlust to a greater degree than is healthy, I'm absolutely better off owning and using some of the wonderful instruments, amp and cabs I learned about here.

I've learned a lot about many brands of basses/amps/cabs - met some cool people (like Dr. Cheese), but I pretty much like the same equipment I've always liked

Changed my mind? Yeah, like 6 times a minute, poking thru the classifieds. (I need that, oh wait I need that, no wait I need that etc...) 
Absolutely Talkbass has changed my mind about things. Not so much in my basic philosophy about tone, and not so much about basses, but in the way I go about getting my tone now. I've learned a ton about reinforcement of bass waves and why so many popular bass cabs are actually pretty sucky compared to doing them the right way. I've learned about many things I just took for granted before, and in the process discovered why I never liked any cabs I owned except my old SVT and my B-15's.
I also learned about a couple pieces of outboard gear here that I can't live without now. One thing about Talkbass is that if you're looking for a specific piece of gear, people are ready to give you their honest opinions and not mince words.
So while Talkbass hasn't made me into a whole new musician, I've gotten some good and quick advice about what works and what doesn't.

TalkBass has basically reaffirmed my beliefs prior to coming here. You don't have to buy expensive to sound good. I haven't found my "bass of choice" yet, as I've only owned 3. One I haven't even touched yet it arrives Tuesday hopefully haha.
I wasn't stuck in my ways enough for TalkBass to change me, cause I got here right right when I really started getting decent, but it's helping to shape me, and I'd shape myself differently without it, I know that.
