Yes, Talkbass has changed my mind about thinking most other bass players were generally pretty cool guys.

Now I think alot of them are crybabies, snobs, and spoiled prima donnas.

TB changed my mind about bassists. I didn't know that there are so many insecure people among us. I never before visited a forum with so many off topic "how to manage my life" threads (e.g. "how do i kick someone out of a band?", "how do i tell my wife i bought expensive gear?" etc.).

Actually you are kinda right about this.

I'm pretty surprised sometimes by how sensitive some bass players are. I mean come on, you play bass. It's the instrument that is the butt of most musician jokes. Well except for maybe drummers....but they really aren't musicians anyway so I guess I can't count them.

Bass players are people. We are not special or some select breed of the same personality and temperment... to think that would be rediculous.

I always thought of bass players as being a special breed of super-humans.

But yeah, of course I agree with you.
But then again if someone picks bass as their main instrument there is always that element of humility that every bass player should have. Actually everyone should have an element of humility.
I can't take anyone seriously if they take themselves too seriously.

GAS is not unusual, and I will never feel like my set up is complete.

Have me at least interested in doing my own set ups. Still nervous about it, but now I may try it, instead of an absolute no.

I have been a member for 8 years now!! OMG!! Anyway, I have turned to TB for a bunch of advice. Some was great, some was crap, but the varied opinions are always great to have. I have found Schroeder for one. Also, I have discovered parts, pieces, and countless basses (some I kept) to play and learn. I think it is a great place to be!

Expanded my knowledge of effects pedals while, at the same time, making me double and triple check my bank account every time I look at something.

Personally, I'd just as soon people kept their humor to themselves, as whatever you may think of your scintillating wit -- just like religion and politics -- only about 10% of those who read it will appreciate it and the rest will think you're just a jackass or at least should have kept quiet. Seriously. You just get on most people's nerves, even if they don't say anything.

But yeah about those who can't handle "negative opinions" -- much less negative facts. Listen, fanboys hate a serious critique of gear. I was discussing a bass I recently got in a gushy fanboy thread about that model and when I said it wasn't all that "awesome" specifically because of A, B, C and D problems, some nitwit huffily accused me of trolling. Heaven forbid you give gear a rigorous appraisal!

Has talkbass changed me? For the three of four short months i have been on here, yes it has changed me.
I probably wouldn't be playing if i didn't stumble upon you guys somehow. (i don't rememeber)

The set up tips are always helpful, the never ending GAS (hehe i just gassed myself and got a used 'wick)
Oh and buying used gear, thats totally not dented my pocket is, and how UNRELIABLE my GC is, and how there is NOBODY in vegas on here

my short little bass life has changed a lot from this one website, i have only played 3 years and ya, it has shaped my gear and a lot of other stuff. i'm so happy we are here

Sure it has changed my mind about EVER drifting over to the Double Bass forums....unless...you're really ready to get eaten alive. It has done nothing to change my mind about my total dislike for P and J basses.

As others have said, I've learned a fair amount about everything from new products to set up to electronics to music theory. As far as changing my mind, not so much.

I have certainly learned to take opinions posted here with the grain of salt. Many people simply parrot opinions they have read by other posters. Many base opinions on 5 minutes spent with a bass, or other piece of equipmnet, at a music store. Others base opinions on looks, prestige, expense or other non-functional considerations. And then there are those folks who are sure that their opinion is fact. We all know a few of those.

Still, I really appreciate this place, because by far and away it is the best spot to get accurate info, socialize and enjoy everything having to do with playing bass and making music.

By the way, I appreciate the humor here quite a bit. You guys do make me laugh!
