Has TB moved on from Lakland?

I’ll always be a fan of their late 90’s / early 00’s passive basses :thumbsup:

I think the model numbers used by Lakland is really goofy. I never have any idea what people are talking about with all those numbers so I tune out. I like simple names like Glaub, Osborn, and Jones. And the fact that the Lakland website USA serial numbers lists end around 2009 seems to say something. I have a Glaub from about 2009 and love it.

I’ll take all the Laklands off your hands if you’re over them. Might even throw you a few hundred bucks!

Sadowskys are great basses and rightfully get lots of hype, but they are a bit too expensive for me. A great US made lakland can be had for $2k used pretty easily. I don’t see US sadowskys going for that price used, or even close, and I don’t believe sadowskys are really superior basses other than being lighter weight. Dingwall sounds like new millennium Ibanez to me. All Metallicy and new metally.

Lakland definitely had a much bigger presence on TB years ago. It got to the point that it seemed about a third of the active posters here claimed to have endorsement arrangements with Lakland, even if the claims were not based in truth. One had to wonder how Dan made any money if he was really giving away all these basses or selling them at artist prices to “endorsees”.

Maybe the novelty of a new kid in town has worn off. Also, a number of very vocal supporters of the brand on this board, from benign to obnoxious, have either moved on, got banned from TB, or just quit playing or being involved with music. This applies to a few dealers that used to post here too.

Sire seems to be the big thing now.

I think it is interesting to look at the mega threads. The biggest ones I generally peruse are Sadowsky, Dingwall and Rickenbacker. Lots of buzz there. Thunderbird is really big too.

When it comes to Lakland, I think their heyday was some 10-15 years ago. Not meant to throw shade, though, as I own a Korean 55-02 that is an awesome bass. I wouldn't hesitate to use it in any ensemble situation.

Roscoe is still around. There was a Roscoe employee (who has since moved on) who was on the forums working the PR thing, so I'm sure that helped get them a boost during that time.

Seems like everyone drools over fender and ibanez these days. To each their own.

There’s still a quite active Roscoe Club here, even though Keith does his posting over on Facebook. He’s still making great instruments that seem to be selling at a good clip. I certainly don’t have any plans to get rid of mine!
