I can't get the neon colors on uncoated strings. I've used DR neons for so long, I don't remember what it's like playing on uncoated strings. (When I have to put strings on a bass where I don't want the color, which will happen eventually, I'll probably use DR Dragon Skins -- same coating but without the color.) But that's another reason for me to not boil my strings -- I wouldn't want to damage or remove the coating. Besides, the coating helps the strings last longer anyway. I probably get more use out of strings with the coating and just keeping them clean, than I ever would using uncoated roundwounds and boiling them when they go dead.
