have you ever smuggled some bass gear into you house?

i bought my first bass rig, a 400watt head and 2 cabs without the misses knowing, i felt guilty, so i snuck it in through the man cave back door and hid it in the corner with a sheet over it, it took 5 weeks for her to notice what it was but by then i said, i have had that for a long time and it was forgotton, no issues, i also regulary by bits and pieces that might cost a bit more then she might approve, i hide those in the music room cupboard.

Haha that's hilarious. Maybe try to explain the value of the gear to her?

I`ve been shuttling a fair amount of gear in and out for the last year or so. Thankfully, the Warden doesn`t know anything about gear. She bases "value" on appearance. She`d swear a new Soundgear costs more than a 70s Fender. The XT Live in the floor - "Oh, I`ve had that, I just never used it much". The new bass on the stand " I had it in a case", or " I got it on CL for $50" Mail deliveries: "Ebay - got a steal on it." :D She does much the same thing with antique books - I notice her new purchases, and know what some of those things run - the only difference is I don`t ask. Some things are better left undiscussed in a marriage.

I'm sure we've all done something like this before. I need a tuner and I don't really feel like having a discussion about it with my wife.

Never. Im all about full disclosure. If I need a tuner, or any other piece of gear, I'll just buy it. Its my money, and she doesnt care what I spend it on so long as bills get paid. She's free to buy herself what she wants with her money. Hell, if I dont have money at the time, I'll borrow it from her!

I get what I need (mostly). We have separate accounts and divide the bills between the two. As long as the bills are paid I can buy whatever I need (occasionaly). I mean, hell, she gets shoes whenever she fancies. Why can't I pick up a cable or some strings (sometimes)?

The new cab is going to be a tough one to get in under the radar though. That will take some discussion (and perhaps some marriage counseling).
