Have you found "the" bass type yet?

I found out lately the Jazz Bass is thé bass for me. I now have four:

And I find that I can do everything with them. Subtle ballads, heavy rock, swinging jazz and kick-butt funk, they can do it all.

Do you have a feeling like that as well with e.g. a Stingray, Precision or Rickenbacker?

Yes. For me it's Carvin, specifically the BB model. It has everything I want in a bass - good balance, unlined fingerboard, 6 strings, humbucker at just the right place at the bridge, good hardware, good wood and plain-jane no frills appearance all for only about $1300.

That sums up the perfect bass for me. There are no words to describe the special place in my heart that such a bass has, so I'll let it speak for itself with it's glorious tone.

In all seriousness, I have been gigging Warwicks for longer than anything else, but I own, appreciate, and would use a lot of things in a pinch.

I prefer single pickup basses... but one of my regulars has a pair of jazz pickups. I generally don't have a problem getting usable tone out of just about any bass... I find it's a matter of finding what the 'bass' sounds like and working it how it works best.

I'm a big fan of the Ray and that probably is my bass "type" but i'm still experimenting a little.

Sorta . . . I've found the perfect bass type (L-1000) for certain styles of music.

I've also discovered that certain bass types just don't work for me but sound great in the hands of others (jazz).

I'm passive only, Fender only, fretted only, flats only, and these days I'm also 4 string only although I do have d-tuners installed on all my E strings.

That being said, I haven't narrowed down the bass type to just one. I find that J's are great for getting a really wide variety of tones, but nothing nails certain things like a P. So I have both and bounce back and forth between them for certain tones.

I've tried some basses during my time and now am with the Jazz. I don't know if it's the best bass for me, I sometimes find myself having trouble balancing it on my torso. Hmmhmm.

Nope but I think I've found the 4 basses that cover just about everything for me. Sterling, J-bass, P-bass, EMG loaded Spector. If I had to narrow down, I'd drop the P first, the Spector or the J second, and keep the Sterling as my last bass. But I wouldn't be happy about it.

warwick thumbs are my type of bass. They give me all I've ever really wanted in a bass.

I've narrowed it down to two: Jazz basses, both four and five string; and P-basses, especially G&L's with MFD split-coils (i.e., SB-2 and SB-1).

I've got 2 basses that I really like, '08' MIA Fender Jazz V and a '09' Carvin Icon IC5. One is passive with single coils, the other is active and passive with soapbars and that's just what the doctor ordered.

For me, there is no "the" bass. My CB 4 string and Rob Allen 6 string are entirely different beasts and that's alright.

I've always been most comfortable with a Ric, but also greatly adore my Fender Dlx P. There've been many others that worked well for me, and few that haven't.
