Have you seen my bamboo bass?

The cheesy jokes for a bamboo bass are just to easy.

The bamboo is pretty heavy. I have not weighed this one yet... But the body is only 1.25" thick, smallish in size, and the neck is short due to the 30" scale. So overall it should still be pretty light, and that is how I like my basses.

Now a full size P or J bass made of bamboo would be quite heavy-

Awesome thread!

I come from a skater/surfer background and wanted to add something here. Currently skateboards and surfboards are being made out of bamboo. I am sure if you contacted some of the companies using bamboo for other "projects", they could provide you contact info for suppliers that could supply large enough stock to cut a bass or guitar body out of.

You guys could be on the leading edge of something very cool here! Talk about a totally re-newable source for guitar bodies!

Bassemo-
That bass really looks nice. Great job! I would also like to see some pics of that one.

Neck Pocket Routed- the cheapo bridge has very little vertical adjustment before the saddles will want to jump out of their "sleds". So this neck pocket is routed on the shallow side- Once the hardware is installed and its strung up I will fine tune the neck pocket depth to accomodate the limitations of this bridge.

Got some more shop time in tonight...

Headstock paddle.

Headstock shaped and tuner holes drilled. Not to keen on the tuner placement, this headstock was designed with 5 tuners in mind. Without delaying the build I picked the locations for 4 tuners and pushed on.

The name of the game with this bass build, is fast and furious. Not going for perfection, and whenever I stop to ponder over the details and consider making drastic changes on this bass, I say to myself " Stop with the thinking, on and with the bulding!"
