Get a tape measure that will extend to 8 feet start sliding it out inch equals 1 year to see where you are in life and you will see that maybe you ought to make that bucket list and "git er done" life is short and be happy doing want YOU want. Just my opinion, being an old timer.

If you don't like playing bass, that's OK.
I only play bass because I enjoy it.
I have many other hobbies that get my juices going, nothing comes close to strapping on my bass and playing along to this though:

after the issues with my arm/fingers, I sold up
I couldn't even practice enough to get better w/o my arm acting up, and this was after reviewing & changing my technique

it was a motivator again not to buy a bass, even though I found a nice one for a good price in the local pawn shop

What did the doctor say is going on about your arm / fingers?

I've had problems with my left arm on and off for a couple of years. I thought it was a pinched nerve but my regular doctor didn't see anything wrong with it even after having the shoulder x-rays. I gave up on physical therapy after a couple of months because it didn't do anything but waste my time. About a year later I saw a different doctor for a different issue and was told that my shoulder was dislocated. Couldn't understand how to other doctor didn't see it even with x-rays because they were able to see it just by looking at me with my shirt on.

If you expand the scenario, most of us are the same.
I currently play in three bands and during summer when my area gets crowded, i have the odd gig as a hired gun.
All i need for this to be done in a professional way is one bass, one head, two cabs (or one really good, small loud and light cab), a strap, a cable and a gigbag.

The last time i counted, i owned around 5 basses, 4 heads, two combos and at least 4 cabs, a guitar, an electric drumkit and more than a dozen pedals (most of them boutique), a bunch of cases, bags, a suitcase full of cables, a spare pedalboard, powersupplies in abundance and many things more, including around a third of a mighty PA system.

I'd wager that most of us here could easily sell half of their gear and still be fully equipped to perform all their bass related functions without serious limitations.

So you fret about keeping one bass and one amp because you don't play in a band and hardly ever pick them up?
My guess is that many members here own a bass that gets picked up less than yours.

It seems I think it over every couple of days now. I try to blame GAS on TB, but TBH I get it just from listening to music.
The powers-that-be are trying to tell me not to buy another though.

Not long ago I had spied a bass & amp I was thinking about getting. Finally on a Saturday morning I told myself that if they were still available, and if the amp were able to be demo'd, that I'd buy them...
Well, the nearest pawn shop has the amp, a small Peavey.

They've had this red Squier bass in the back fooorrrrr evvveerr (ok at least a year), but it's the only bass in the shop at the moment.
It was sold only 5 minutes before I got there, according to the guy behind the counter. It's probably true as well, because it was there just 1 day prior.
So I went home thinking that it was a sign, that a bass for demoing the amp would get sold on the day I intended on using it...

Today I thought, "What the heck, I'll go up to the Fender dealer & just shell out real money for a new Squier bass & a Rumble 40!" (think $500 vs. the original $300 estimate)

There was a two-hour window for free time from 16:00 to 18:00. The Fender dealer closes at 18:00 (6pm)
Then at 15:00 I learned that my free time window would be only one hour, not two.
Well, it takes an hour just to drive to Fender & come back again, so that whole operation was cancelled.

They also have ukuleles, but no bass ones, lowest they go is baritone.

If I really push it & decided to go to the Fender dealer tomorrow, my automobile might not start, or maybe I'll get gout & can't walk

Luck struck again!
Since I didn't have enough time to go check out the Fender dealer, I went back to the pawn shop where there was a real gem natural finish P/J that's been there since December.

I decided in the parking lot that today was the day & I even thought about Wayne:

When I spotted it, I was thinking, "Wait, just over a week ago it was a P/J, but today it's got two soapbars?!"
Then I got closer & realized it might look like the other one, but this one was a Ibanez Soundgear with active pickups. The one I was after sold this past Saturday!

They've got a nice big 350 watt Ampeg combo there, so I plugged in their Sterling SUB for a bit, a red one with the single humbucker near the bridge.
Sounds great & all, but it's almost 3x more cash than the natural finish P/J that was there just over week ago :(

Your are soooo GASsy :smug: i can smell it from 3000 miles away

I briefly considered buying the SUB, but I don't want to spend much, in case I go nuts & unload it in a couple of months.
It's the thrill of the chase that fuels me, once I get it home...
Do you make any money flipping them? Or at least break even?

I buy used stuff all the time, I think of it as converting cash into guitars that I also convert into cash again. Truth is I like the experience of buying 1000 times more than I like selling, but I do eventually sell a few things here and there.

If you like to buy and sell for fun, just don't lose money. I guess this completely depends on your local market, but I can't imagine selling off everything and never playing again. Pretty clear you enjoy it and you're knowledgeable enough to make smart buys.

I made money one time, when I sold an American Fender JP-90, which I should have kept & never went on my crazy search for a Rickenbacker.
Every other time I've lost money.
All in I'd say I got back about 65% of what I spent

I just discovered that one of the sad emoticons doesn't work, because the word to use it is a filtered word, LOL!
