Having a bass & amp as a toy?

I only made the order for it last night, but it has shipped already
my first fretless

"pain" probably isn't the right word, more like a numbness, but it's annoyingly difficult to get that arm in a position where it's not keeping me awake
by the time the u-bass arrives, I'll be ready to play again

glad I didn't ditch my high stool that I use for playing
my armchair gets in the way of my arm for playing

You could take up writing / journaling about your bass with a sunburst Fender from S.T. Dupont. linky (no affiliation) Dupont is now and always has been exclusive and noted for their lacquer. Might alleviate RSI too, if you're mindful.

Since you don't really play bass, I suggest as an alternative, $300 would buy a nice acoustic guitar. Learn 3-4 chords, play a thousand songs. Your kids, friends, visitors may also have fun with it.

I keep meaning to do this. I sometimes hijack my daughters Squier Bullet Strat, but it's got a very small neck and tight string spacing (yes, even for a guitar). Every time I pick up a 12 string acoustic, it feels much more natural to me, so maybe one of them.

Would it be shameful to have a bass & amp (think all in $300) around just for fun once in awhile?

Over the years of owning various gear, I've come to the conclusion that I will never practice or improve, sad but true!

I considered getting an acoustic bass uke, just for plunking around on, but I really like to be able to throw some distortion/OD into the mix sometimes.

Say what? Was there a thread on this that I just don't remember? Sorry to hear about it but, as they say, life goes on. Glad to see you stayed around after your big purge.

I did it rather quietly one night. My final purge netted me $750 at Sam Ash. I think if I buy another electric bass it will be a Ibanez Mikro or a short scale. Long scale basses wreck my arm. I tried to build up stamina, but it just wasn't coming.

Then I sat here thinking about it & realize how foolish it is to try & save $30, which really means I'm going to spend more money to get a Rumble 40 soon.

Yeah, it's not much money, but given my past track record & lack of willingness to practice, it's probably best I stick with the toy-sized u-bass for now.

So you've sold off ALL your gear, now you've bought the Ubass, which is great. But now you're looking at a Mikro as well...... and an amp.

You're not finished yet.....not by a long shot.
