Dear friends, it's my first post from Italy. This Forum it's simply great! Well, can you help me? I'm looking for Haydn Concerto for violone (or db, it's the same) probably composed in 1763. But, if it exist, if it's an original Haydn Concert, do you know if someone has published it? If there's a website in which to look for it? If it has ever been recorded? Excuse me for all these questions and thanks a lot in advance. My best regards (ciao! from Italy) Vito
There was a blurb about this concerto in Double Bassist magazine, I think. The piece was in Haydn's catalog of works which included the concerto's first measure, or so. It unfortunately has been lost, or its owner is keeping it hidden in an attic somewhere so that the solo double bass won't make it into the concert hall on a regular bassist - probably by a frustrated cellist who thinks the primacy of Haydn's cello concerti would be in danger. Who knows....?
There is such a thing, but all scores have been lost. If it was in someone's personal library, it's quite possible it was destroyed during a world war.
