HD Format War....Over?

So, Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Netflix are all going exclusively with Blu-Ray players and media and not carrying HD-DVD. That pretty much seems to be the nail in HD-DVD's coffin.

What do you think?

Uneducated guess, I'd have to agree. I'd actually like to see what percentage of DVD sales in the US come from these outlets, though.

Looks that way, must mean that HD-DVD is the better format if the VHS vs. Beta outcome is any indicator.

Blu-Ray can hold more info, so it's the obvious choice on that front. But, blu-ray discs need retooling to make, whereas HD-DVD's don't.

Wal-Mart already has a sub 400.00 Blu-Ray player as well. HD-DVD may have had a chance if they got a 150.00 player on the market about 8 months ago. Looks like Blu-Ray is going to take it though. I kinda thought that once Disney was on board anyway.

Yeah, the only thing that could save HD-DVD is a REALLY cheap player....NOW! hahaha

I may pick up a Toshiba HD-A3 to use as a cheap upconvert dvd player, once it drops to like 50 bucks or so

Yeah, HD-DVD is dead. You can't lose Wal-Mart and expect to survive. They lost Target and Blockbuster already last year. This week you'll probably see the movie studios dropping support for it.

I'm completely indifferent, but clearly the Blu-Ray is going to own the market.

Sony lost the VHS - Betamax wars, but they won this one.

Netflix also just recently said they are going straight Blu-Ray.

I think it was in PC magazine or something that they discussed this about a month ago. This time the better format won, they just need to rework the menu page... consistently annoying.

Word on the street is that the HD DVD factories are shutting down.

I'm glad I waited to choose sides. The whole DVD-Audio/SACD format war nearly killed the hi-resolution audio disk format. It would have been sad to see the same thing happen with HiDef video disks.

Of course, I expect they're also terrified of the upcoming switch to the potential dominance of on demand video over the 'net, which could hurt sales of disks.
