He broke my bass!?

yes but if you post a background scene into the story you will always get people responding to what happened. hate to tell you but if you want straight answers you need to ask straight questions no fluff or fluff will get comments. been like that as long as forums and BBS have been around. and I dont consider calling people aholes and idiots being chill

LOL, i didnt blow up, i told you guys what i think, after people like you, say things like you dont believe my friend did it and that i did. Like i said, i asked a specific question, and most of you didnt answer it, you gave what you thought about the situation. SO michael, are you saying that you were one of those people who actually cared? I think not. I think its very apparent that I was thankful to the people that actually helped, i mean, in the same post that you just quoted me from, i said it at the end of the post lol. Thanks though

Ok...so you blow up at a forum of dudes engaging over a mysterious situation more than you do at a guy who with apparent intention smashes the crap outta your bass? We're just asking questions. If it was me as OP, I would have yet to see a person in this thread who has earned the identification as an "a$$hole".

Dude...you might want to get off your high horse and maybe rationalize what you just said. Most of the people in here actually care alot about you - considering all of us don't even know you. Look at all the people giving you compliments about how mature and rational you are. You might want to stop talking, so they don't have to take it back.

LOL. I didnt post any fluff. I posted a direct question, and then people start making assumptions, and saying they wanted to hear what really happened. I didnt post the story specifically for this reason, but it happened anyway. SO i dont know how you can say that i didnt ask a direct question lol. I DID.

I think the OP pretty much followed the model in the Bible, if you want to go there. He gave to a friend in need, and he forgave his friend when he screwed up.

+1

This is the essence of how much Christianity has to play a role in this post. If we wanted to go further, none of us should even be in this friggin' thread talking about basses and we should be out giving all our stuff away and feeding the poor and the widow. We're all to blame for that. So ask for forgiveness, and stop the Christianity talk here. That's all we can do.

I personally quite like the new look, so to answer the original question, I'd keep it if it still plays and sounds good. If it happened to me I'd expect my friend to give me some money towards a new body, if I was keeping it I'd still want about half the cost of a new body or a promise for the full cost if I ever wanted to sell it/put on a new body.

really? Seems I got the lowdown from reading the first unedited post. so I don't see how you can say you posted because people asked what happened hahahaha. Anyways Ive wasted enough of my time in here. enjoy your firewood

He may or may not have lent it out in the first place if it were his main ax, I'll give you that.

If he had, I think you are wrong. Everybody isn't willing to hurt, much less "shoot" another person(much less a friend) over a bass. I'm sure he would be sick to his stomach about it, but I imagine his reaction in general would be about the same...just expect the guy to make it good and not loan him anything else.

No matter what you have, it is just a bass.

It would be hard to play very many gigs if you are in jail, and I refuse to believe everyone is that materialistic, that they value their possessions more than a human life.

you are acting as if what happened is a misfortunate accident that could happen to anybody and not a product of utter ignorance and disrespect to other people's belongings involving a set of lies from someone who is supposed to be a friend.

so you're ignoring the point but since it seems you've taken me too so seriously I assure you I wouldn't have shot anyone if they damaged my bass in these same circumstances but if it was a bass I cherish dearly I'd be very furious and would most probably need a few hours to cool off in which time the person who caused the damage would better stay as far away as possible from me.
after the initial cooling period has ended I'd demand that person to fully pay the value of my loss and would consider a legal action if they refused.
again, this is not an accident, if it was an accident I would probably refuse to get any compensations offered by the person who caused it if they were considered a true friend by me but in case an awkwardness like this happened with lots of question marks surfacing about the the dignity and integrity of the "friend" in question I'd still reconsider his status as a friend even if he offered to repay right away.
like has been said, it's about the kind of people I want around me, someone who acts like that is not someone I want in my close circle of friends.

i asked a specific question, multiple times, and others decided to answer the other questions. Im not being a diva at all, im totally being chill, about the situation, and everything else. I asked for advice specifically on if i should paint the edges back black, leave it as is, or get a new body. I said that multiple times. Thanks

to answer your question: it's ugly, throw it away.

next time you want opinions on the bass your friend maimed you should phrase it like that "what do you think of my redesgined bass?" and not "he broke my bass?!" which kinda invited what has been going here through 10 pages and wastes everybody's time.

Ditto. I go for friends that know the words from the Aretha Franklin song "R-E-S-P-E-C-T".

Don't worry- we won't let it get any farther. I think we're done here.

Also a reminder to some of the posters in this thread- keep the religious talk out of this. As stated in Rule #3, religious debate/discussion are not allowed in any forum unless specifically allowed by the forum's posted rules ("sticky" threads).
