He broke my bass!?

So i let a friend use my bass. I believe its a reissue jazz, dont know what year. Or should I say WAS. I never played it, just had it here as a backup and hes a good friend so i figured it would be fine When i got it back, this is how it was. A whole corner missing, and for whatever reason, he decided to sand down the finish around the bass to make it look better? He said that corner was all shredded, so he sanded it down to where it is. He told me a bs story originally, then came back after and admitted that he lied about it and that he would tell me what really happened, but then I told him dont tell me the story, but to just replace it with a new body. It sucks bc the body had a nice worn finish on it.

So im trying to figure out if i want to keep this body. Playing wise, its really smooth, and it doesnt feel weird at all when i play it. Its a story to tell kinda. If i decide to keep this body on, do you guys think i should leave it as is (it looks kinda stupid i know) or should I paint the sanded part back black? Ive gotten mixed responses so far. Thanks.

By the way, i have the pickguard for this bass, just dont have it on, so it would cover up the big sanded down part near the control plate. Just the sanded down edges would be showing.

I would keep it BTW, who knows...you might be able to use the neck or the electronics for something...

The chain is just part of my friends coat. I actually wasnt too mad, its like, what can you do? As long as its repaired, im not gonna make a big fuss about it, but yea.....

That's the neck your talking about! The body may not feel weird but it sure as heck looks it.

I'd be getting a new replacement body on that neck courtesy of your 'friend' and then sending one less Christmas card!

The bass plays fine, totally fine, sounds fine, its just the corner is missing. I dont plan on throwing the bass away, just deciding if i should put another body on, or keep it the way it is, or paint the edges back black. I would think that if i painted it back black, it wouldnt look so bad, considering my arm would be resting where the corner is missing. A whole corner, i still kinda cant believe it lol

That is both sad and hilarious at the same time. I would just let him get you a new body and then give the "modified" body to him, since he did buy you a new one. That thing looks like a relic job by Helen Keller.
