He broke my bass!?

wasnt an overnight thing, i let him use it for a couple months. You know i wanna be mad about it, but its not my main bass. And hes ovbviously agreed to pay for everything. I try not to let myself ever get too bad, i can get mad and throw a fit about it, or i can just go with the flow, and get another body. I try to choose my battles wisely. Screaming and hollering at him will really do nothing, he already feels really bad about it, and it will only get me all uptight and upset. Im just rolling with the punches right now, not like its irreplaceable ya know?

No way that broke off. It's at 45 degrees to the grain of the body. Looks like he cut it off. It's hard for me to believe this is the result of simply an accident. It looks to me like the bass was a victim of neglect (like a really dumb game) over some period of time and that was his "solution" to the problem.

Without regard, anyone who subjects a friend's property to a situation that could end like that, is likely to find himself with very few friends over time.

I'd ask him buy you a new body, FINISHED, from the source of your choice.

I dont even see how it broke like that. I would think it would crack with the grain all the way up the body. Is your "friend" (?) into heavy drugs or drinks hard? I dont see how it could have happened like that, and then to cover it up and lie???? I would have beat him with it.

That thing looks like a relic job by Helen Keller.

Ha. I know it didnt break like that. He said the corner got messed up, and he had to sand it down like that. I dont need to know the story really, i just want him to fix it, which he has agreed to. Im gonna get a new body regardless, im just wondering what you guys think.

The chain is just part of my friends coat. I actually wasnt too mad, its like, what can you do? As long as its repaired, im not gonna make a big fuss about it, but yea.....

You're either a righteous, mellow cat or you're heavily medicated. Either way, you're a good man to take the high road as you seem to be doing. I salute you.

Me, I'd kill an elephant and throw it at the guy. Loan someone your gear and the expectation is s/he'll treat it better than his/her own. Shows how old-fashioned I am.

The body is beyond repair; he at LEAST owes you a new one plus luthier costs to get put together/set up properly. Have him pay for an onboard preamp, too, while you're at it.

honestly I would have him replace the body until he does I would hound him night and day
i cannot imagine what would compel someone to do that, but if it were me i'd insist on a new, extremely expensive body, refinish, set up etc......if for no other reason than to teach this guy the lesson he so desperately needs to learn......imagine if he did that to some of the previous posters......they would be dragging the river looking for him now
