He broke my bass!?

He actually will replace it. He already tried to give me the money for it but i was out of town doing some gigs for a while, and when i finally got back to him, well, thats a whole nother story lol. But trust me, it will be replaced, theres no doubt in my mind. hes been really understanding and upfront about it. He just panicked when he first told me bc he knew how valuable it was to me. hey we all make mistakes, most of us not like that, but mistakes nontheless

I mean come on guys, its a bass body. Last time i checked no bass was worth going to jail/prison for. But i do agree that you guys are right, ive learned a lesson about loaning out my gear. I usually never do it, and i let it happen, and now ive suffered the consequences, but in the end, i will still have a bass, although not the exact same one, i will have a bass. And ill still have a friend also, just one that will never borrow anything that i own lol.

So much of what you said is so true, You are a good man. Your friend is not!! He LIED to you, friends dont do that. He should have called you the moment it happened. Trying to cover it up is WRONG. He would not be my friend any more. Friendship involves TRUST how can you ever trust him again??

I'd punch him in the throat. Not for breaking the bass... that may have been an accident, but for putting the white-wall job on it. It would be worth buying my own replacement body. :)

Ah, but then, I'd probably cool down and just have him give me a new body and never let him live it down.

na, I'd still hit him :)

Holy 5h!t. Im sorry but in my book that deserves a penalty of death. I know hes your friend but come on, that just looks like blatant disrespect to something valuable that doesnt belong to him. If I was you I would have flipped :rollno:

This isn't anywhere near as bad as what happened to you. However, I loaned a fellow bassist my Sadowsky Jazz ONCE. I was sweating bullets for 4 hours but It came back the way I gave it. He did however lose my cable. But he swore he put it in the gig bag. Well, that was a lesson learned. It was my first and last time loaning out any kind of gear. Never again.

You're being so saintly about the fact that your bass has been royally butchered by a 'friend' that I'm begining to wonder if that 'friend' is one of those "Dear Oprah, my 'friend' has a social disease that he's too embarassed to own up to" sort of friends.

Could it be that it's you who is actually responsible for this hideous abomination? Could it be that you are just checking out what TBers think of your now painfully ugly bass without risking ridicule as the perpetrator?

OK, it could genuinely be a third party who is responsible for it, so what I would do, in all honesty, is to remove the neck to check that it is straight and true, check it all over to make sure it's free of cracks, as good and strong as it should be......then batter him senseless with it.

The "new" look is weird, at best.

You lent him a Jazz that looked like a Jazz? He should return a Jazz that looks like a Jazz...in short, time for somebody's 'friend' to shell out for a new body. After everything's changed over, give him the old body...upside the head: what a dumb stunt.
