He broke my bass!?

I've never seen such an horror:eek: With friend like, this you don't need enemies. Even my son who is 3 years old is more responsible than that ( I let him play with my stingray and my american P-bass without worries). I hope you will make it pay the price for this kind of stupidity, it's umbelievable. He have the profile to become politician (destroy and lie)!!:rollno: Quel con!

Not quite sure what to say. Even if the corner was a little tattered, why in gods name did he decide to cut off the whole thing? Something tells me there is a bit more to this story then he is telling!

There's a bit more than the OP is telling, IMO.:hiding: Just sayin'. Not that it matters much...but it could fill the gaps in our wondering minds about this very...odd turn of events.

Ha. I know it didnt break like that. He said the corner got messed up, and he had to sand it down like that. I dont need to know the story really, i just want him to fix it, which he has agreed to. Im gonna get a new body regardless, im just wondering what you guys think.

Forgive me, but I keep thinking this is one of those "so I have this friend..." stories. You sure you weren't just going for a new look and now sorta regret it? You are asking often how it looks. That's what I'm dying to know...ahahaha. It's such a ridiculous story, I just had to ask.

Dude, good luck getting your new body/money....If he did this to your bass and lied to you about it what makes you think he's really gonna pay?

Agreed ...these types of people feed on your tolerance and patience, and get away with being unreliable, disrespectful and dishonest slobs because of it. They are selfish, and anyone I've known who acts this way is not a friend of mine - despite what they may think.

I had someone use a bass at my house while I was away, snap a string and then take a flatwound off my fretless to replace it without telling me. He then broke the nut on that bass and put a giant scratch on it's gloss coat. He also screwed with the string and pick up heights and somehow lost the control cavity cover. He promised to fix the whole lot, and I said fine. Two months went past, so told him either repair the bass or buy it off me. He bought it, probably because it was the option that meant he gained something and didn't have to do anything for someone else. Too bad he paid about 500% more than the cost of the repairs...

You need to put your foot down, and tell this guy in no uncertain terms that he owes you a new bass to replace the one he ruined and lied about. No compromises or 'okay sure, you can have some time to save up some cash.'

Who cares if it looks 'kinda cool' to some people? The guy 'modded' your bass without asking. Would you let someone turn your car into a convertible without asking first?

This is a friend of yours???? Id have him buy you a new bass to replace the one he broke then further damaged with sanding. A whole bass replacement, not just the body. Glad I dont have friends like that. If he wont pay for new one take him to court. He'll end up paying lot more that way.

What the heck is "back black"? You keep talking about painting the edges "back black"...never heard of it.

Do you mean paint the edges back TO black or black AGAIN?
Maybe I'm a little slow.

This story sounds kinda fishy, man. Like a joke. You sure this "friend" of yours doesn't look in the mirror and see YOU staring back? Maybe you wanted to customize it and now you're not sure if you F'd it up royally so you want to get our opinions on your "friend's" handy work? I dunno...I'm not trying to call you a liar...just sounds a little...uh...ackward. I mean, you don't even WANT to know the story? You sure you just don't want to tell us the true story? HA HA!

This whole thing is kinda funny, really. :D

Anyway, I don't think it looks all that bad. Seriously, I would paint it; but it doesn't look all that bad to me. If this guy really did do this to your bass, I would make him buy you another one. Friend or not, you have to teach him to respect you and your property or he'll do this sort of thing again. And let me guess...your friend doesn't own any nice stuff of his own, does he?
