He broke my bass!?

IMO I think it looks awesome, unique, weird, and like you said, it's a story to tell! I would keep it that way and almost be tempted to make it my main gigging bass! This is the kind of thing that starts trends! (albeit horrible or cool ones!)

Looks kind of cool I think.
I'd still have him replace the bass.
Not funny to do **** like that to an instrument that's not even ones own.

Not quite sure what to say. Even if the corner was a little tattered, why in gods name did he decide to cut off the whole thing? Something tells me there is a bit more to this story then he is telling!

That's a great attitude. I agree that since he's going to pay for the damages, there's no use in wasting your energy on being angry. Still, it's very surreal, and there's nothing wrong with being astounded and weirded-out by it!

seriously .. you didnt GIVE the bass to him you let him borrow it...BORROW!!!! and this dude did you like that. i cant front i would have seriously (as in not jokingly) busted that dude up...friends dont do that. that is a blatant disregard of your personaly property. the dude basically said youre a punk and you aint gonna do nothing if he jacks your bass up and you took it?!?!?

a friend would never do this and you need to evaluate your "friendship" nd set this dude straight and recoup a new bass from this dude. is this the kinda dude that tortured little animals as a kid because something is wrong with him. what a dick.

Well, you are a patient man. A new finished body and a setup are minimum. I wouldn't keep the old one myself, but that is up to you to decide. Accidents aside (and that looks like no accident unless he was 'accidentally' playing ball with it), I will say that people have less respect for others and their property than when I was growing up. Once, my brother and I shoveled an older widows driveway for $5 (big winter of 1979 in Chicago), I was 9. When my dad came home and found out, he almost killed us. He dragged us back, made us give the money back, and made us shovel her driveway again. I didn't understand then, exactly, but I now have a much greater respect for others and their property as a result. I know if someone did that to my Spector or Modulus, out comes the shotgun!

I understand this point of view entirely. I try to live my whole life that way. Getting uselessly angry at things is so counter-productive, and can make a stressful situation even more so. I'm also not going to say that you should be mad at your friend, because I'm sure there are many dimensions to your friendship that no one here understands. Even more so, the truth is that sometimes amazing friends make big mistakes, and part of a solid friendship is being able to get past it. I have friends that I would ditch for something like this, but I also have friends that the thought would never even cross my mind. I might be mad, but sometimes friendship is worth a whole lot more than a bass. ANY bass.

Ha im sorry for the people that wanna know the story, but Ive already forgiven him, and its done, i dont wanna go back and bring it up, because he was already really upset about it, because he knows it was my bass, its what i do for a living. But he honestly was sorry. For the people who say they would have killed him, im not a physical person. I can be, i mean im no little guy lol, but i believe in dealing with things with respect, and i believe in showing respect for myself, and my family, and my name, which is very valuable to me. Getting in a fight with him would have brought tons of legal troubles and all sorts of bs. Never talking to him again would have solved nothing either, bc he is a good friend and has always meant the best. What i think happened, is that i know he was having probs with his gf. I think he got pissed slammed the bass into the floor, and the wood shredded. In order to not make it look so bad, I think he just sanded it all down to where it is. I mean come on guys, its a bass body. Last time i checked no bass was worth going to jail/prison for. But i do agree that you guys are right, ive learned a lesson about loaning out my gear. I usually never do it, and i let it happen, and now ive suffered the consequences, but in the end, i will still have a bass, although not the exact same one, i will have a bass. And ill still have a friend also, just one that will never borrow anything that i own lol.
