headless bass

So, I went a bit loopy last week and picked up a Cort Steinberger-a-like. I'm kinda hoping to get a "gig-bag-for-a-rifle" so I can carry it on my bike. ANYWAY, I'm wondering if anyone has any tips, hints or clues to get the best out of the bass?

It has a P/J p'up configuration (I don't expect to use the J much) and some seriously cheap-looking pots. The cavity for the pots doesn't look large enough to upgrade to standard large-sized pots, but I might see about getting around to getting better ones eventually. I'll play it a while before I make up my mind about the p'ups.

Any particular thoughts regarding strings? I'm typically playing classic rock and Motown-y stuff, so am prone to very bass-heavy, non-trebley tones, but like to have the potential for the bright tones, so I'm disinclined towards flatwounds.

Any other ideas?

I have a similar bass, a Hohner B2B. I love the passive PJ config but that's me.

Warwick has a Rockbag for headless basses that'll fit perfectly.

Buy a string adapter from eBay and you can use whatever strings you like.
