Dude in Spain selling the ABM singles...
Brand new ABM single headless bass headpiece in black finish (price per item) | eBay

FYI, they are in stock at ABM according to the website and shipping to US would bring price to ~$80... A $25 *better* deal than above...

I might just bite on the ABMs I just love their simplicity for the head(less)stock!

Does anyone have them? Is there a downside I don't see? Yes, I would replace any stock screws with high quality ones!

Not sure about the ABM tuners, can't tell if they are "twisters" (wrapping the string around) or "pullers" (the original Steinberger approach)

I have five of the ABM headpieces slated for a not-too-distant-future project. They look nice (like all things ABM), but come with a pretty small mounting screw. Not sure if I want to try it or replace it with something larger.

The ABM tuners are most definitely not twisters.

Picked this up used at GC and love the way it feels and plays, of course not digging the stock pickups and am considering to swap them out with the Bart's to try out the warm tone department.


Or, I just stick with the EMG's I'm already use to playing (pictured on the right). Don't get me wrong. I really dig the sound of EMG's but I'd much rather prefer the used steinberger to have a different taste/flavor to compare and contrast between the Bart's and EMG.

For the Bart's route I'm thinking of adding these on and hope the mod goes well without any serious routing.

I had a Spirit with the Selects and I know what you mean about them not being exactly warm. I liked them a lot but the Bart "Deep Tone" dual coil pickups will be much darker. I have a set in a Peavey wired in series and it's one of a few basses I will solo the bridge pickup as it does favor the booty side of things.

This is one of my favorite layouts with a blend knob as you basically switch between humbuckers and 2 sets of single coil positions.

I'm alway sin favor of expanding one's tonal options... That's the primary reason for having multiple basses for me!

Last week I spoke to bestbassgear about potentially fitting a Bartolini NTMB+ preamp on my Spirit bass for them to tell me it won't fit. So when I mentioned these pickups (Bartolini 1CB Pickup Set for 4 String Steinberger Basses - Best Bass Gear) they also wrote to me saying "There are no replacement bass pickups for the Steinberger Spirit."

Now I'm kinda lost for words seeing there's two reviews on the site of those mentioned pickups where a customer was able to install the passive Bartolinis on his Steinberger Spirit being a direct fit (there's even a YouTube video about it). So I don't know if I should just pull the trigger on the pair of pickups and preamp to try it out myself or resell the bass...

I'm definitely going stacked regardless and the dimensions of the preamp posted is:

1.76" [44.7mm] Long,
1.02" [25.9mm] Wide,
0.54" [13.7mm] Thick

I'd like to go Bartolini cause of the adjustable output gain.

I'm thinking it can be done... especially if the leftmost pot is removed (stacked)... looks like it would be plenty of room, using your pic as a reference.

Measure twice, before cutting... or pulling the trigger.

Public peace/Maruszcyck carries them, I got one for my project from Adrian. Ended up selling me a bridge set with the M logo as ets is very slow delivery.

Love those dudes from Kiesel. I stopped by their Headquarters in Escondido and chatted up on building me a custom bass soon. I really love their thin neck profile on their 5 string Vader they have in stock that it makes me feel like I'm not playing a 5 string. Love your color option too, it's very reminiscent to the Steinberger XM series.
