Headphone amp before powered monitors??

Hi!

I’ve been using a Tascam Us-1800 for a while now and everything is ok except for one thing I read is common : low volume through monitors and headphones when listening to the input sound (loud enough for what’s all ready recorded). I read that a solution would be to put an headphone amp between the output of the Tascsm and my powered monitors.

Simple question : safe for my monitors to do that?

no, i wouldn't do that. are you sure you don't have some digital fader turned down somewhere in the tascam control panel app? my US-1608 is HELLA loud. I have to keep the volume almost all the way down to avoid deafness.

Thanks for your answer. My US-1800 is an older model (works fine, no need for an upgrade right now!) and there’s no control panel app on that one.

I suspect a gain staging or monitoring issue somewhere along the way.

Have you tried adjusting the “monitor mix” dials on the front of your interface? What happens when you rotate from Computer to Input? Also, have you selected the right input level (guitar vs line in)?

Are you running though any recording software on your computer?

Not a speaker monitor problem, but what headphones are you using? I ask since I had an impedance mismatch issue with one set of headphones and one interface that I use. I had the same symptoms as you (only with the headphones, not monitor).
