Headphone Recommendation

Nice headphones for the price - clean sound and comfortable fit which was what I was looking for. The Amazon package is a little off, the headphone case is too small for the K240's but my old Tascam's fit just fine (it's a nice case, just too small for the headset it came with). The extension cable is 1/8" mini plug and well made. All useable gear although not properly matched.

I've had several sets of supposedly "good" headphones. The only ones that matched the hype was my Beyerdynamic DT-770's. I've changed the earpads after several years, but they are still going strong. If they died I'd get another set.

For whatever it's worth, I received the Beyerdynamics 770 80ohm cans about two weeks ago. HUGE difference from the junk I had. Very clear sound and nothing out of balance. And when I listen to something with electric bass, upright bass, or tuba, I hear it with the the desired volume, character, and clarity. A VERY impressive sound for cans that don't cost $500+. I'd buy them again. Well, in fact, I did. I wound up ordering a pair of 32ohm for my wife strictly for listening to music and movies on her iPhone. She had a holy cow/mind blown experience - when you use ear buds or listen via the speaker as she does, a nice pair of cans make a believer out of you.

Has anyone had experience with the AKG371? I got to try a pair briefly in a store demo and liked what I heard. But I'd appreciate if anyone has used them for either practice or recording, and what you thought of these headphones.

I was in the market for a new set of cabs for online jamming. Read this thread and tried the AKG K240 Mk II. It has lots of good reviews so I figured they should be pretty good. But no. No thanks. Weak bass and had to dime every control at my disposal to get decent volume out of my Focusrite 2i2. Figured I’d need a separate headphone amp.
Then found one of the last sets of Audio-Technica ATH M50X’s left in Canadian Inventory in Long & McQuade.
They blow the AKG’s out of the universe. Full and rich. There’s no comparison and no headphone amp needed.
For an extra $20, it’s a no brainer.

I did not go the extra $$ for the MkII's, and now that I have been using the K240's a bit the luster of new cans has worn off. I do like the fit which was the main issue with my other cans. The volume could be better - sound is OK and pretty clean, not stellar. Still not bad for $70.

Audio Technica ATH-Mxx series. Xx is either 20, 30, 40, or 50. Price and quality go up with number. I own the 30, 40, and 50. They are all great. Evenness of response and high/low extension improves as you move up the series, but even the cheaper end of the series are great for the money.

Kind of late to this thread, but what the hay? If you're still reading this, I second the AT ATH-MX series. I bought the 40's for my kids, I have two pairs of the 50's - for $50 bucks more, well worth it, IMO. Great phones, IMO. I also have a more expensive pair of the Pioneer DJ HDJ-X7's which go for about $199 - twice what you want, but superb, especially with my workstation keyboards, which can pump out some serious bass frequencies.

I was happy with my AKG K240's untill about two months ago the when left side started rattling, then both sides. They are now useless for anything. My son gave me his SOUL by Ludacris headphones and they are great...so far.
