Headphones

Hey everyone, i'm ordering this week new headphones and was wondering if anyone had suggestions. What I need them for is practicing bass at home through my amp. Also i need them to be good at playing to music or listening to music as well. I have 2 possibilities so far: Sennheiser HD289 Pro and Sony MDR7506. Would any of these be ok? or does anyone have other suggestions? Also needs to be around the $100. to $125.ish price range. Thanks!

I suggest Ultrasones. I have a set. They are well built, sound very good, especially for bass players because you can actually hear the bass with any of their headphones. They also don't derict the sound directly into your ear but rather at the outside of your ear so you feel like the sounds are actually somewhere around you. The first time I put them on, I started looking around the room because I was convinced the sounds were coming from something other than the headphones.

They are also in your price range.

I have Ultrasone HFI-550's and the Sony 7506's.
The Utrasones are my hands down favorite. They are connected at my computer/recording set up at home.
However, I keep the Sony's in my gig bag. They sound good, they're inexpensive, I have no complaints with the Sony's. YMMV

grado sr-60's (69 bucks [us])

www.gradolabs.com

you can usually get em from todd the vinyl junkie's website (Link Removed) for like 62.

these are great. I've had two pairs over the years and they have a really punchy bass and great soundstage. great for bass players.

Check out the AKG K240S (55 ohm impedance model) if you can. I went shopping for ~$100 'phones at my local pro audio store a few weeks ago. Listened to Senn 280s, Sony 7506, Ultrasone (not sure which model) and a couple others. To my ears the AKGs were the most musical-sounding of the bunch, with a smooth but accurate midrange the others couldn't touch. Just IMO, of course. Bought 'em and still love 'em.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I'm in a slightly different situation and was about to start a new thread myself about headphones. I made it out of my first recording class today and I have to buy a pair of headphones for recording. Our professor said we just need something with a flat eq to get our critical ears better. My price range is about the same, would the recommendations be the same?

I have the same Ultrasones, but I might return them for a higher model.
