Headstock/neck joint

Your bass was made the "right" (which means it's physically robust) way. As stated many times elsewhere (including in this thread) it's not the way some companies (one in particular comes to mind) do it, but those companies' products have a (well earned) reputation for breaking a lot at the neck/headstock joint. Enjoy your bass - it'll be fine.
 
Scarf joints are usually chosen for monetary reasons. (shorter wood)
And usually solid neck woods.

Not usually multi-laminate necks since I would argue they are already stronger than solid necks.

I agree about the comments on joint strength, modern glues have evolved to the point you'll break the wood around the joint before that ever opens up.
