Why is the E string wrapped in the opposite direction from the others?

I was informed by some TB Hagstrom bass club members that this was the proper way to string it because there is less of a break angle at the nut, so I tried it. And I agree, so I left it that way.
Don't worry my p basses are all strung in the normal fashion..cheers!
