Hearing help needed

Admittadly this is sort of "off Topic" but I thought this would be a place to start. This forum gets 100 times the hits as "Live Sound".

I am an older dude, and need some hearing help, like a hearing aid, or really aids. There are lots of hearing aids out there, and places that do hearing tests, but they all sell hearing aids so I don't think you can get an objective recommendation from the seller.

I had a hearing aid a couple of years ago, a good one, a Siemens behind the ear one, about 3k in price, but I could not get it to work for me, feed back was the main issue. They tried reprogramming it a couple of times but it just would not work for me, so I took it back as it was on trial.

Someone out there that has had good experience and or recommendations? I sure would appreciate your help. Thanks

I'm gonna need a pair soon....actually I'm way past due.

I've been looking at the widex models.

There are some PhD dudes up in Nova Scotia that have a superb online hearing test that lets you calibrate your headphone/sound-card setup for "minimum discernible signal". I've posted the link here before, but PM me if interested.

I sent them my results and they kinda sorta with lots of disclaimers "mentioned" Widex.

I am largely out of commission above about 9KHz, so speech intelligibility is really tough in a restaurant for example.

No experience with any of this yet, but these dudes in NS really seem to have this down to a science. I kinda badgered them for a recommendation, and they really didn't want to.

Moved to Misc.- even if Basses gets a lot of views, you still need to try to post in the correct forum. There's a large sticky at the top of this forum about hearing, earplugs, etc.
