you can try Yamaha RBX series also for metal. especially RBX 774 sounds nice in rock/metal type of music. and for another option, take a look at Traben basses. i tried one few months ago and it sounded great!! imho, it can compete with an '57 Fender P-bass, but has a stronger tone, which is more suitable for metal music i think.

So axeman, after creating quite possibly the biggest "what bass is good for metal" thread EVER... What are you gonna get?
Warwicks definitely arn't for everyone, but I love mine. An older 97' Corvette standard, bubinga body, weng neck and FB, brass frets and nut, can coax a great metal tone out of it.
Right now my favorite metal bass is my 87' Japanese Aria Pro II XRB-2A

It's totally metal, and not just because it looks metal either. I get some great tones out of it and is quite aggressive.

Looks like a nice bass! The only thing I would do is add a pickguard or something to give it a bit more colour.

I am considering music man sting ray or sterling or a warwick thumb or corvette if i can afford any of them, if not spectors are a cheaper alternative with cheaper models available

Make sure you try both MM basses and both Warwick's. MM's and Warwick's both have a destinct sound and feel that isn't for everyone. Good luck!

I'm having a hard time imagining it with a pick gaurd lol. To each their own though.
Every time I pick it up I touch my head just to make sure my hair hasn't gone cock rock.
The only thing that I would change about the bass would be the color. I think it would look great in bright white.
I never was one for a painted neck until I played this and I actually don't mind.

I'll also give the Stingray a thumbs up. I have a few...they sound great in metal. Go try one out and see for yourself.
Lol, just realised that the bassists in my two favourite bands (disturbed and A7X) both use musicman basses (I think they are sterling) 
I always liked the tone of the bassist from Lacuna Coil especially on Karmacode - turns out he uses a "custom Ibanez Prestige SR-3005 5-string bass with EMG-40P5 pickups". At one point I thought it might have been a P-bass lol
Now I have to go on the long perilous task of finding any of these basses (considering i live in NZ) 
I think the store where my bass teacher works has a spector, might check it out next time i'm there.

I think it's more amp related than bass related.

Sorry, don't have time to look through the thread but I own a B.C Rich platinum warlock and it's pretty metal haha, its got the shape... and the only bass I owned before was an old Yamaha, but the warlock is truly metal.. and despite what people say, I like the sound of them...
But I've caught the Spector bug and shall be investing in one for christmas, mainly because one of my bass idols is alex webster, and DAMN I love his tone on Kill, so go for the spector euro series, quality basses.. I couldn't put it down when I played one at a store.
