Double Bass Helicore Orch medium

Hi! A month ago, I went to pick out a double bass for my school to purchase. I'm in the Singapore Polytechnic Jazz Band. So in school we go by quotation and so I settled for a fully carved flamed maple, ebony fingerboard bass called Eurostring model 500. The guy at the shop told me the strings were Helicore Hybrids which I thought were good enough for jazz pizzicato. Now, 2 months after the purchase, I realised that I have been playing on Helicore Orchestral Mediums. The sound is warm on the E, D and G string but slightly thumpy on the A string. Could you suggset a better string more suited for jazz that has good mellow warm sound and more volume? Thanks

Are you playing pizz only, or also with the bow?

Which brands are available up there in Singapore?

I'm only playing pizz. We have Pirastro, Thomastik-Infeld, Larsen, Jargar, Corelli, Lenzner and D'Addario from the same shop, Gramercy Music. I'm looking for something with more volume, mellow warm tone. Thanks

Thomastic Superflexible or Pirastro Permanents. More sustain, but warmer than a full pizz string. Work O.K. with the bow when you need them to.

The Pirastro Obligato strings might be a good choice as well. They have a tone and feel with a little bit of gut character, warm sound for pizz, and they bow well. Thomastik Superflexibles will give longer life and they are an excellent all-around steel string.
