Helix, zoom,and fx folk, i'm looking for some input

hey all,

so i have been playing thru a b3n and had created a chain that i have come to really like and get comfortable with. recently i've upgraded to the helix lt and am cannot for the life of me recreate even (what i would consider) the basic sound of the b3n chain. really it is because i only know enough about this stuff to be dangerous, and not at all a comment on anything product related. so, can anyone tell me what a comparable pedal effect on the line6 stuff to what is a "BaPDlMnP" (one of the pedal fx)on the zoom??? pretty sure it's some kind of an octave pedal as there is a +- setting on the zoom effect.

i have done everything in the exact same order as i have it on the zoom, i have essentially directly comparable blocks for the rest of the chain, but i think it is this one thing that i can't find something that works in the octavers or whas on the helix. i have put some super crap images so you might be able to see what blocks i am describing. i'll also try to include a sound clip of the effect thru the soom just so you know what i am trying to do and maybe have some insight for me! thanks a bunch for any help...

It's a monophonic pitch shifter. Basically a whammy effect. I can't really help you get it to dial in as I don't have a Helix, but I recently went from a B3 to a GT1B and it's astonishing how different its responses are. I'm able to get what I want out of it, but it's not so simple as 'pick the same effects and tweak to taste.'

thanks for the reply...MnP...of course, duh....(i mean that to myself, not you!! ) but yeah, i swear i've tried evry wham block in the helix. that was like my entire saturday morning. oh well i'll go back and revisit the wham pedals and see.

i'm with you on the zoom. obviously comparing a b3n to a helix lt is apples to oranges but yeah, i totally thought the helix would just make me ditch the zoom outright. i really just need more time with it, but i think i've decided to keep the b3n for travelling and playing at friends houses when we can. the helix will stay at the home studio. thanks for the input tho!!

Back in the day, when I switched from the Zoom 501 to the Digitech BP8 I had the same issues. Keep playing with the Helix and see what you can come up with. Different multi-effects units have much different layouts and parameters, and it was still a chore to adapt even when I went from the Digitech to the BOSS GT-6B, and even when I went from the 6B to the 10B.

As for the pitch shifter effect, the Boss had something similar where you could pitch shift a note and control the shifting using the pedal. Not really a whammy effect, but a pedal effect. You might start with seeing what the Helix has for pitch shifting parameters go from there. Also, what I'm hearing from the recording is a lot of delay as well. You can modify the delay so that the notes shift like that. I have an old Digitech Delay/Reverb/Chorus pedal where you could adjust to get sounds like that.

sort of comforting to know i'm not the only one who struggle....sort of thought it woud be "easy"! hahah, oh well. yeah, i tend to like long delays at parts. this song i use a 966 ms delay. i have set every delay perameter exactly the same, but maybe that is part of the difference. what i was attracted to with the zoom was the emphasis on hte first couple cycles, like the delay actually builds up first before decaying. i dunno, maybe i'm going crazy with all this stuff, but i can see why some folk like a few analog pedals they know, and forget bout all the knob turning.
