Hello from Indianapolis

My name is Brian and I have a 80's Washburn bass. I picked up the bass in '92 after listening to Geddy and Claypool (RUSH Roll the Bones 1991 was my first concert). I just started playing again the last few years.

I like all types of music but I have been focusing lately on worship and contemporary jazz.

I am looking to move to a 5 string and I am really interested in the MM Sire Vintage V7. The only problem I am having is that there are no Sire dealers nearby (the closest is Chicago Music Exchange) where I can actually try it out.

Does anyone close to Indy have a V7 5 string I could see in person?

Hey Indy. Welcome to TB.

Why the five string? Just starting out four is fine. Hone your skills, practice your craft on four perhaps. I’m an old guy, been playing since I was a teen. Have a six string but almost all my work is on 4. Just a thought. Worship and or contemporary jazz (maybe) don’t actually require more than four.

Hi, Brian. Yes this area is bad for bass dealers. A ride to Chicago or Cincy is your best bet unless you buy outright. Good luck!

I hear you on the 4 vs 5. I have always wanted to try a 5 so thought now was my time to get one.
My budget is ~$750 for a jazz bass. Some of the local used gear here at the Indy dealers has been really beat on so I was looking more at buying new. I thought the Fender Player series sounded good when I tried it for the price. I hesitate to buy any anything online without playing it in person. You can only get so much from listening to reviews on YouTube.

There are some amazing basses on the classifieds here. Why can't these be closer?

Any store you suggest in Cincy?
Or anyone in the Cincy area have a NICE used Fender Jazz (USA not in my budget)?
I don't mind the 2 hr drive for a quality bass.
