Found this forum while searching for a vintage Hofner 500/1 bass. I bought one new in 1966 that I used through the end of high school. Put it away for some time in the military in the '60's (guess where). Picked it back up and put it back down a few thousand times and had a brain fart in 2001 and sold it. Now I'm kicking my posterior. It was mint as well as the case.

Now I'm getting the bug again and would like to get another Hofner, but I don't know whether to search out an actual vintage or go with one of the re issues. I'm leaning more to the re issues at the moment unless a vintage comes along at the right price and condition, but I fear I'm looking for what I gave up and it doesn't exist.

Newbee here, I don't play (I know, shame on me)
but I love Guitars and I yesterday added a, NO "THE"
Bass to my collection!

I am a big Hot Tuna/ JA fan and for a long time have
been looking for a Guild Starfire.

Two days ago I saw a set, SF1 and SF2 for sale
on eBay and another store had an SF2.

These are reissues all with "Guild Humbuckers" from
FMIC.

I got the #2 from the set and while she's not
a vintage, she may be as good or better.
(see 1959, 1960,etc. Les Paul 6 strings reissues)

You could pay two grand for the real thing, or buy an Ignition and get the thrill of a brand new hollow Hofner. For three hundred bucks. It sounds impossible, but go play one in a quiet room with a good amp and flat wounds. You can't go wrong.
