hello, sheriff!

Once, when I was 19 or so and still living with my father, I was cruising around in my car. At the time, my car was my only place of refuge and solitude. I spent a lot of time in my car, and usually in my trunk was a huge compliment of spare gear i had just in case something might happen at a gig or practice i was attending. well, i had my bass next to me and i was cruising around and simply could not resist. i had this line kicking through my head so i decided i had to jam that line right there as quick and soon as i could. i knew the neighborhood and went and stopped in a section where there were roads with nothing nearby. I parked my car and plugged in the tape adapter and threw the 1/8 to 1/4 adapter on and jacked into my car stereo speakers and started jamming right there on the side of the road in my car, bass neck sticking out the window. as i sit there jamming, a sheriff car rolls up. the man looks at me really weird but somehow understanding. they ask "are you okay? we got a weird call about a car over here!" and i said "yeah, i was just practicing, had an idea and had to play it..." and they understood. they said "oh, okay, just checking!" and left! they didn't care! they understood the immediacy i was feeling and didn't think i was a psycho!

well, perhaps they did, but we will never know for sure without an interview or anal probe.

just goes to show, sometimes, when you gotta play, YOU GOTTA PLAY! and gear ain't nothin' in the end! my amplifier was my car stereo speakers! a pair of 6x9" pioneer 3 ways! 50 watts of pure car stereo power! and it ROCKED!

okay... that's enough story. go back to rockin'! :bassist:

Yeah glad the cops where cool...You weren't doing anything illegal, just listening to your car stereo while parked somewhere...it just happened to be live radio.

You have to tell me how you set up that car stereo output rig...my car has an amazing boss system and I would love to able to play on it...sometimes I warm up sitting in my passenger seat for 20 minutes before bass lessons (no amp) so I'm not coming in cold.

I suppose I could do it on my bass pod by using a tape adapter instead of headphones...but that doesn't run on batteries.

Qintar...is that you?

i have no qlue who quintar is...

but yes, the tape adapter to bass thing -works- but isn't very good sounding. it would be better if you had a pod or something with a headphone output you could adjust levels to... then you'd have a pretty rockin' car stereo!

and yes, leave your rig at your drummers house and use your home stereo... that's all i've practiced on at home for years now, my home stereo plugged into my computer as my 'studio monitors' and headphones plugged into the stereo most of the time even...

Ohh dude! its that easy! I'm going to totally have parking lot jams on lunch break now (well at least on days I have to play after work and have my bass).

Next you going to tell me I can do the same thing with my home stereo and a left right cable and leave my amp at my drummers house, aren't ya?

Could also use a set of powered computer speakers and an 1/8 to 1/4 adaptor. I've done this many times. I'm sure you could even find a set for a few bucks at Goodwill if you didn't have any.
