Double Bass Hello to all! And a story and a poll.

What should I do?

  • Get another Palatino, they're great!

    Votes: 1 9.1%
  • Pre-order the NS WAV4 right now, Ned has never made a bad instrument!

    Votes: 7 63.6%
  • Stick to your fretless for now - both options suck.

Hi everyone!

This is my first post here and first of all I'd like to thank you for all the great information here. I've been a bass guitar player for more than 20 years but I recently got an EUB, which brings me to the story part:

I was lucky and got a brand new Palatino off a German eBay auction dirt cheap - 400 Euro including shipping. I don't have anything to compare it to, but after practicing Simandl and Real Book for a month and testing a few of the tweaks suggested here, I thought it started to sound pretty decent. I was planning on using it for the first time on 2 jazz trio gigs this weekend and was pretty excited.

Then disaster struck: my 1 year old son knocked it over when it was leaning in a corner. It didn't harm him in any way, thank God, but the neck snapped right off through the heel. I think it's wasted beyond repair - if anyone needs any spare parts for their own Palatino you can have it at shipping cost. Sigh. Back to my trusty old fretless Jazz Bass.

So what's next? I emailed the eBay seller and they can send me a new one for 520 Euro. On the other hand I was already glancing at future upgrades; the new NS WAV4 is mighty interresting. I could wait a month or two for it to be released and get it at $1000 with shipping.

So here's the poll. What should I do?

Thanks,

Odie
