Help a Noob to Record

Well im pretty new to this recording thing. I have my PC setup with Cubase installed (both Cubase LE and Cubase VST versions). I have my bass / guitar. I also just got a new USB Yamaha mixer (MV10 is the mixer off the top of my head).
Basically Iam running my bass into Line (channel 1) of the mixer and the USB goes into the back end of my PC. If i load up cubase I can play the bass and hear it through the monitor headphones or speakers. Only thing is, when im recording and then playback, I don't hear anything when playing back. The track has an audio wave showing, so there is sound there, I just can't hear it. Any ideas where I might be going wrong? Kinda sucks not being able to playback what you just recorded!!

Yeah thats kinda the path I have been going down in an attempt to get this thing working. Im pretty sure I have the XP side of it set up ok as when I play an MP3 in iTunes, it comes out through the monitors. The only sound I can't get out the monitors is the recorded sound of my terrible bass playing... hmmm

Im guessing then my problem is definately a setting within cubase.

Thanks for your efforts guys. Any help is much appreciated!!!

:hyper:

Well after playing around for a few hours last night, I got the mixer to work. In Cubase the ASIO driver I had set was the ASIO multimedia driver (as stated to use in the instruction manual). I changed it to Direct X Full Duplex and it worked. I have no idea what all that means, but im recording now so I don't really care
