Help: "A" string quieter than the rest

Hey all,

I have an Ibanez SR480 which is a 4 string active EQ with a P-J Pickup configuration. I am finding that the A string is noticably quieter than the others. I am confident that this is the J pickup playing up as when I set it to front P only it is fine but it only happens with half-half or full J pickup.

Is there any way that this can be fixed? Or would it require a new pickup? Did I miss something in my explanation?

This happened to me also with an Ibanez, my E string was significantly louder than the rest. I found that I had used different strings from different sets and the E string had a higher iron content or something than the rest so after a string change it was fixed. I don't mix & matc between string sets for this reason.

Hey thanks for the replies.

I have no idea if it is a quad coil, maybe another ibanez owner might know :D, it does still amplify though so its not dead completely. If it is a pickup coil problem, can this be fixed?

In terms of strings, maybe its the opposite effect? the A string is just dead or something and the other ones are fine. It has some heavy gague ones from the previous owner, it may simply need a change of strings as i have no idea how long they have been on.

:hmm: Anyone know if a problem with the coils can be fixed? or would it require a new pickup? I wouldnt want to change the pickup as they arent that cheap, and this was meant to be my "inbetween" bass so i did not intend on investing in it.

Change the strings first. If problem persist, pickup has preblem. I don't know if it can be repaired. It depends on how pickup is made. Check it with some experienced technician.

Good luck.
