Help! Acoustic B200 buzzing..

Hey all. I have an Acoustic B200 combo that has developed a buzz at anything higher than bedroom volume. It seems to be coming from the 15 inch speaker although I'm not 100% sure. It happens whether the horn is on or off. I want to get a tech to take a look at it but I can't see where you can even open the amp up. How do you service one of these combos if you can't take it apart? Or is there a secret door somewhere with a hide latch...lol.

Hi BulbousMoses.

Have you tried your amp in a different room to make sure that the buzzing is coming from your amp's speaker and not something else nearby?

Please don't take apart your amp if it's new. You'll void its warranty.
(And please don't try to fix it yourself if you aren't a qualified tech. There are dangerous voltages stored in an amplifier's charged filter capacitors.)

Instead, gas up the car for a trip to that Guitar Center (that's where you bought your rig?) and make a day of it by planning to do other things while you are there.

You may wish to call them in advance to make sure they have a substitute amp on hand when you arrive.

In the future you could consider shopping for gear at Steve's Music or Long & McQuade.

The situation that you now find yourself in (along with many other members of TalkBass), vis a vis having a problem with an amp made by a distant manufacturer, and purchased from a non-local source, is why I'm a huge fan a regionally manufactured and retailed gear.

Support the local maker & merchant, and the local maker & merchant will support you...

Before you take it in I'd take a phillips screwdriver and snug up ALL the external screws, including the side carry handles, amp corners, etc. These things are assembled in China, so you never know when a not-tight-enough screw might vibrate loose. Also, it is easy to pry out the front grille to check the speaker mounting screws, it's just held in there with velcro at the four corners. This will not void the warranty according to Acoustic. If the buzz is still there after doing all that you'll have to take it in to GC.

Yeah, I thought about tightening all the screws and I will do that tonight. Thanks for the info about popping the front grill off. Hopefully, it's something very simple like this. If not, I'll probably just get it serviced locally since I doubt that GC would exchange it. I was told that you have 30 days from the date of purchase to do a straight exchange and I'm well beyond that (although still within the 3 year parts and labor warranty)

You might be surprised as GC owns Acoustic.

Success! I tightened all the external screws and some of them were quite loose. But still, the buzzing. Then I popped the grill off and tightened the speaker mounting screws (two them were very loose). Popped the grill back on and gave the amp a run through...no more buzz! So it was the speaker mounting screws...whew...glad that's all it was.
