Honestly, I dislike either...
Fender 5 strings have a weird feel and sound just alright...
MM 5's are bulky and heavy.
G&L, Sadowsky or Lakland are best choices IMO. Try a bunch of basses from these brands until you find one that speaks to you. It'll happen in no time.
