Help Assessing Fretboard Buzz

Just purchased a Dean Pace EUB, with the guts ripped out (cheap on eBay and you get what you pay for). Waiting for my fDeck preamp to be delivered so I've haven't spent much time playing it. Was looking for a transitional instrument before trying the big DB.

I noticed that the "A" string above the 7th fret buzzes like a hive of angry bees. I raised the saddle and it has made a small difference (clearer till about the 12th). The "A" string now sits high above the others.

Could be the cheap strings, but it sounds and looks like the string is making contact with the fretboard.

I think that the neck has a bump. How do I assess that? With a thin aluminum ruler?

If it does have a raised area how expensive is it, generally, to plane it down? Is there something that can be done with the nut (btw it appears to be hand carved).

The tuners are crap too. Are the bores standard so I could replace them as well.

I'm trying to assess how much it may cost to get this instrument into passable shape. :hmm:

Both the nut and the fretboard should be checked. I use something a little bigger ( 1" square stock ) to check to see if the FB is even.

If the board is good, sounds like a new nut is in order.

For me, average cost in my area is about 100-150 for the fretboard to be evened out, then 60-75 for a set up. If its the nut, about 40 for the nut, and again 60-75 for the set up.

Not to sure on the tuners though, only played a Pace once, not a bad lil EUB for the price.
